The former head of government and ex-secretary general of the PJD no longer seems to distinguish the psychiatrist from the fqih Saadeddine El Othmani. In the midst of a debate on high prices, fuels and the campaign calling for the departure of Aziz Akhannouch, he thus chose to address the prevalence of monkeypox among homosexuals, on the occasion of the publication of a study in the scientific journal New England Journal of Medicine.
Conveniently mixing science and religion, he assured that “the vast majority of current cases of Monkeypox are transmitted by sexual contact”, while “the vast majority of those infected are homosexual men”. But above all he added that “the lesson learned is that leaving the Fitrah (reference to the original nature of the human being according to Islam, editor’s note) a danger to man, his health, his life and even his existence”.

As experts around the world warn of a stigmatization of homosexual people and a deleterious effect on the prevention and treatment of monkeypox as the virus continues to spread around the world, psychiatrist Saadeddine El Othmani seems to be going against the grain.
As a reminder, the World Health Organization (WHO) has removed homosexuality from the list of mental illnesses since… 1992.
