The car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz is turning to Web3 by developing a market place dedicated to the marketing of data on Polygon (MATIC). Thanks to blockchain technology, Acentrik will connect professionals capable of providing all types of data, to enable them to enhance their know-how.
Mercedes-Benz launches its data marketplace on Polygon
The famous car manufacturer Mercedes Benz launches a blockchain project on polygon, through its subsidiary Daimler South East Asia based in Singapore. This project, named Acentrik, consists of a market place, specializing in the data trading.
Acentrik is based on the technology of Ocean Protocol (OCEAN) thanks to a fork of it.
The marketplace sees two types of players intervene: data providers and the data consumers. The former will thus be able to put on sale on Acentrik, the data from which they wish to make a financial profit. For this, these data will be stored on a computer node. A centralized model such as an Amazon Web Service server (AWS S3) can be chosen, but also the decentralized variant via the open source InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) protocol.
Data consumers will actually buy non-fungible tokens (NFT) with USDC. Mercedes explains that the choice of Polygon lies in the low cost of its transactions, but also in the fact that the network uses Ethereum (ETH) security.
On the side of the costs relating to the trade of this data, 0.2% will be donated to Ocean Protocol and 15% will go to Acentrik for its development.

An economic model centered on professional players
Acentrik is based on a model business-to-business (B to B). However, although the outlines are still unclear, the whitepaper does mention a potential Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) in the future. However, a possible token dedicated to the protocol is not not mentioned at the moment.
Concretely, the platform is aimed at any sector that needs a lot of data to establish models. One of the most representative use cases is the autonomous car. In order to create the most reliable vehicle possible, companies wishing to devote themselves to such a project will need enormous amounts of data to analyze. Acentrik then places itself as an intermediary, to allow those who have this information to value them.
Companies could then, for example, concentrate on the collection of satellite data useful for driving and resort to at the services of Acentrik to put them to use.
The case of trading companies is another type of application. This is reflected in particular for the needs consumer behavior analysisdepending on different variables such as their age, gender or geographical location.
Mercedes does not rule out deploying its protocol on networks other than Polygon. BNB Chain (BNB), NEAR Protocol (NEAR) or Solana (SOL) are also potential candidates.
Be that as it may, we are here faced with an additional example, of an industrial giant having understood the interest of technologies in our ecosystem for its own development. Thus, Acentrik aims to become the leader in the commercialization of Web3-style data.
