Google Wins Its Mid-July ‘Showdown’, Nixing A Sonos Patent

Alphabet Inc. Google SARL has won a California federal judge’s decision overturning a Sonos Inc. patent related to transferring song queue playback from one device to another, solving the second of two issues discussed in the last month’s “patent showdown” between the companies.

Sonos alleges that Google infringes the patent by equipping “control devices” such as smartphones or tablets with certain apps capable of transferring media playback to devices such as smart speakers or televisions, which Google calls casting.
