Google starts warning about the farewell of its video calling app

Google is about to end Duo once and for all and is already warning users of the video calling app

We had already warned a few weeks ago that Google was preparing everything to finish once and for all with Duo, its video call application. As the company has confirmed, in a very short time, all functions of Google Duo will be integrated into Meet, and the latter will become Google’s only video calling application.

Now, the time to say goodbye to Duo seems to be much closer. The company itself has started sending out a notice to app users, reminding them that sooner or later the Duo app will automatically become Meet.

The last farewell to Google Duo, much closer

When opening the Google Duo app on Android, many users encounter a warning similar to the one seen in the screenshot below these lines. It says “the Duo app will become Meet, with a new name and icon, and more features like background effects.”

Despite this, it is still possible today to use Google Duo normally and to make video calls with other users of the application. At this time, the company has not confirmed when the full transition from Duo to Meet will take place.

The change is similar to what will shortly happen with Google Hangouts: Google’s instant messaging application will be integrated with Gmail via Google Chat, and will disappear as a separate service.

All of these changes are aimed at simplifying Google’s suite of communication services, making it easier for users to adopt. We will have to see if the plan takes effect, or if sooner or later we see another rebranding.
