A first track to replace Luan Peres?

OM let Luan Peres slip away in Turkey and should therefore recruit a defender before the end of the summer transfer window. The Olympian club would have an eye on Attila Szalai, who plays at the Fener club which has just recruited the Olympian defender…

According to several journalists including the Turkish media As Marca, Bologna has offered €11m to Fenerbahçe for its defender Attila Szalai. The latter wants to leave to improve his salary, Fener had accepted an offer of 14M€ Zenit but the player refused to play in Russia. Wolfsburg, Fulham, Marseille and Valencia are in the running, but the amount expected by Fenerbahçe seems far too high for OM’s finances…

The 24-year-old Hungarian defender still has 3 years of contract with Fener. This 1.92m left-hander played 30 in the Süper Lig last season. Attila Szalai was recruited for €2.2m from Apollon Limassol last summer.

The strategy will therefore change on certain positions

“It is normal that there are changes in the search for profiles. A player who is comfortable in one style of play, is not necessarily in another. Last year, we started on profiles to have possession in the middle of the field and we had in particular Boubacar Kamara who had this role of central midfielder. With Igor’s way of playing, the two midfielders will have different characteristics with more intensity, an ability to occupy space. The strategy will therefore change on certain positions. As we said at the last press conference, the objective is to increase the quality of the squad, while giving continuity to the team. With the Champions League, I think we have to sign 5 to 8 players. During the transfer window, it is very important to have a consensus with the coach. I have always said that good leaders are those who have a good ability to adapt, to the club, to the city and to the identity. And also an adaptation to a new coach and his style of play. You always have to meet the expectations of a new coach since he is the one who will develop the players”. Pablo Longoria – press conference (07/07/2022)
